We were so taken by this beautiful post that we wanted to share some of our favourites with you. What the neuroscience of magic reveals about our everyday deceptions

We know that there is no such thing as 'magic', but it still mystifies and captivates us, as coins are conjured out of thin air, as cards are mysteriously summoned from a pack, and as the magician's assistant vanishes before our eyes.
So how does it work? It's a question that neuroscientists like Stephen Macknik and Susana Martinez-Conde are trying to answer. In the process they have conjured up a new branch of cognitive research called neuromagic.

'High Society' will explore the paths by which these drugs were first discovered - from apothecaries' workshops to state-of-the-art laboratories - and how they came to be simultaneously fetishised and demonised in today’s culture.
