This film entitled 'Sound Business' looks at the role of the Sound System in reggae and in UK culture in general, during a golden area for UK based Sound Systems. Shot in 1981 and narrated by Mikey Dread of Channel One the film has a particular focus on Sound Systems like the ‘Young Lion’ Sound System, and ‘Sir Coxsone’ Sound System, with in depth interviews with the crew of each.

Since 1966, Danny Fields has played a pivotal role in music and “culture” of the late 20th century: working for the Doors, Cream, Lou Reed, Nico, Judy Collins and managing groundbreaking artists like the Stooges, the MC5 and the Ramones.

The classic and legendary CBGB in New York gave life to a host of bands and musical movements: Ramones, Television, the Patti Smith Group and Talking Heads were favorites of the 70's punk era, while in the 80's it was one of the epicenters of the US hardcore punk movement.

Traditionally, our previous instalments of 'From The Vaults' have featured slightly obscure artists that in our opinion didn't recieved the plaudits they deserved in their era. The same cannot be said about the man that features in our most recent gem. The late, great Marvin Gaye is seen in this short clip rehearsing for a show in Ostend, Belgium.

This summer The xx will curate three full day shows that are set to take place in a series of unusual locations in May and June 2013. Accompanying the band, will be a selection of their favourite bands and DJ's. The venues include a waterfront park in Portugal, an abandoned Berlin theme park and a London palace.
