Steve Reich To Premiere Radio Rewrite Next Year–
Posted by Calum Sager on 6 August 2012–
In March of next year The London Sinfonietta will give the world premiere of 'Radio Rewrite', a new work from master of minimalism Steve Reich, inspired by the music of Radiohead. The project was born after Reich met the band at a music festival in Poland explains Andrew Burke, Chief Executive of the London Sinfonetta."It was the first time Steve met the band and spoke to them at length; he saw that Johnny Greenwood was seriously interested in his music and Steve became seriously interested in theirs. He was very inspired by their musical ideas." Reich himself has said this about the project: "Meeting Greenwood encouraged me to look further into his music. I really like them; they're really different. If you look at the themes I'm working with, I think they're brilliantly constructed; their instincts are intelligent. The work is not about making musical variations in the classical sense' but dealing with the harmony and with the melody." Reich will also perform 'Clapping Music' on the night, which will be held at the Royal Festival Hall, 7.30pm on Tuesday 5th March 2013.
