Random International: Rain Room

Posted by Calum Sager on 8 October 2012

In this daring new commission, contemporary art studio Random International invites you to experience what it’s like to control the rain. Visitors can choose to simply watch the spectacle or find their way carefully through the rain, putting their trust in the work to the test.

The amazing technology installed in the Rain Room tracks your movements as you step into a precise, 100 square metre cuboid torrent of water and, somehow, remain dry. How exactly this is done is a mystery, despite Random’s list of the tools of its trade, including injection moulded tiles, solenoid valves, pressure regulators and 3D tracking cameras.

You can visit the Rain Room between 4 October 2012 - 3 March 2013 at London's Barbican Centre, admission is free but please be aware that queuing time is at least two hours at present.
