– Pete Drake, born Roddis Franklin Drake, was a major Nashville-based record producer and innovator of the pedal steel guitar. During the 1960's he was one of the most sought-after backup musicians on the circuit, playing on such hits as Lynn Anderson's "Rose Garden", Charlie Rich's "Behind Closed Doors"' and Bob Dylan's "Lay Lady Lay"'. In 1964 he took the fore and fronted his own band, landing an international hit with his single 'Forever' taken from the album of the same name. His use of the talk box with a steel guitar was completely new in the 1960's, and this unique sound took the brilliant track to #22 in the Billboard Hot 100. This is our favourite recording of 'Forever' taken from a 1960 TV performance which is equally beautiful as it is bizarre. Enjoy!
